There are a couple of items that it is with emphasizing to even our longest Sonofresco Coffee Roasters which will help ensure better quality consistent roasts.
- Clean your screen. A clean screen is the single most important item when roasting your coffee. It ensures an even flow of air. Without that free flow of air the roaster does not roast evenly and you will have a darker roast than you expect.
- Use your wire brush. If you have lost it we sell replacements at a very low cost. Be especially vigilant with decaffeinated green beans. There is very little chaff but the small fines that accumulate around the edge of the chaff screen need to be removed
- Soak your screen. Once a month (or week) dependent on the amount of roasting, soak your screen in a degreaser overnight. This will extend the life of the screen.
- Clean roast chamber. Clean your roast chamber with a dry cloth between roasts to remove the oils and to prevent black build up at the base of the chamber. DO NOT immerse the roast chamber in water as it will loosen the heat resistant tape on the flanges.
Use the can! Do you still have your Sonofresco can? (Arguably the most important accessory to the roaster.) Use one level can of green bean if you have a one pound roaster and two level cans of green with the two pound roaster. DO NOT use smaller amounts. The roaster will not perform to its full capability if you use less beans. With the sample setting on the CR1S models use 120 grams of green beans.
